Recently I have had a couple of people tell me how much they enjoy this column. Apart from being heartening to know that people actually read it, I am also glad some find it useful - as I have been at it for over three years now!
Someone made a really good suggestion: to make past copies readily accessible. Fortunately we have a website - so with the help of our clever CADS web woman, previous columns now can be viewed on www.cads.org.nz. Just click on ‘Gay and Lesbian’ or ‘Need More Information’ (see left menu).
Over the years, I have certainly covered a myriad of topics, all connected to some sort of addiction – but still quite diverse. The drugs I have covered are:
- Alcohol,
- Opiates – including Methadone,
- Methamphetamine (i.e. 'P')
- Benzodiazepines (i.e. Valium/Diazepam),
- Cannabis,
- BZP,
- GHB,
- Ketamine,
- LSD,
- Steroids,
- Poppers and Viagra,
- Energy Tonics (the new BZP’s),
- and chocolate and shopping – yes they too can be addictive!
Other topics include: thinking about and planning for change, managing withdrawals, driving, mental illness including depression, gambling, personal and community responsibility, drug reform and celebrating our trans-people.
What I would really appreciate now is to know what you think of the column – and if there is anything you would like me to cover! Once again you can get hold of me through our website – there is a link at the bottom left of the home page that says ‘Email us now’ or .
It would be great to hear from you!
