| Party pills containing BZP are not "herbal" or natural. |
A common misperception is that the party pills containing BZP are herbal or natural, when in fact BZP is anything but natural! BZP is the synthetic drug benzylpiperazine which, by the way, is the active ingredient in worming tablets for cattle. The piperazines in all party pills are synthetic.
BZP is now only one of many different types of piperazines used in party pills that can be bought across the counter. With the increasing variety of active ingredients in these pills it is wise to find out as much as you can about the particular effects and side affects, before downing one of these puppies.
So to avoid that trip in the little white van – here’s a plan!
- Ask around and get the low down from those that have tried them,
- Search online to find out about what you are about to ingest, and keep within the recommended dose – especially if you are a small person.
- Remember that it can take up to two hours to come on, so don’t think that they are not working, and you need to take more – just wait! Some of the effects of party pills have also been known to last up to 24 hours!
- Avoid alcohol – the effect can be unpredictable, unsafe, and can leave you with a hell of a hangover! If, not drinking alcohol, is just too hard – make sure you drink water as well (i.e. drink for drink).
- Don’t combine with large amounts of caffeine – this has been known to induce epileptic type seizures, as can taking more than the recommended dose.
- Drink an extra half to one glass of water every hour to avoid dehydration
- Never buy or take an unlabelled party pill…
- If in doubt, or fancy a chat, don’t hesitate to call CADS (09) 845 1818 or if outside of Auckland 0800 85 85 84.
Remember to EAT the next morning – a banana can make all the difference to how you feel. If you can’t face eating it – then how about a smoothie!
