"Consumers are involved in the planning, implementation, and evaluation at all levels of the service to ensure services are responsive to the needs of individuals". (NZS 8134 Health and Disability Services Standard 2.5)
What is a consumer? 'Consumer' refers to anyone with personal experience of alcohol and other drug problems. Other terms used include service user, client, tangata whai ora, and patient.
The CADS Consumer Team consists of a Regional Consumer Advisor who works across all services and 4 Consumer Liaisons working with individual teams - the Auckland Opioid Treatment Service, Medical Detoxification Services (in-patient and community/home detox), the Counselling Service, and the Pregnancy and Parental Service.
Our role is to provide CADS' services and management with specialist advice from the perspectives of people who have experience of drug and alcohol problems and of drug and alcohol treatment services. We have a range of strategies available to people who are using or who have used the services to gather information about their experience of the service. We use this information to inform our involvement in strategic planning, service development and review, quality assurance and improvement activities, staff selection and training, etc.
To contact the Consumer Advisor phone 09 815 5830 or email cadsconsumeradvisor@waitematadhb.govt.nz
